Mac Geniuses 4
Another day, another comic. This is in response to Microsofts “announcement” that they would create a music player that “looks and feels just like the Apple iPod” for $50. Which they later pulled back.

Mac Geniuses 3
As promised, a new, fresh comic. Comments welcome.

Added 20 images to my SnapClub page. Check them out by clicking the SnapClub button in the sidebar to your left. You might have seen some before though, I think some of them are in my Album from Iceland too.
The Big Surprise
So what secret is it that I’ve been working on for the last few weeks? My Mac Geniuses comic of course.
At first, the plan was to make 10 comics, and include them in a executable available for download from a dedicated site. I got tired of making comics though, and couldn’t think of enough good ideas for comics. Not to mention some of the comics weren’t even funny when they were to be released, because they were so old. I then decided to make a dedicated web site to post them on, adding them as they were finished. But then I scrapped that idea too.
Starting tomorrow, I will publish one new comic every day on my blog, till I’m out. I currently have 5 in stock, and after time I hope to make more. But for a start, look forward to the next 5 days ![]()
Update: Entry 150 - woohoo!
PowerBook Saga Final Part
So the PowerBook is back again, in working order. Allow me to express my happiness with AppleCare.
Tuesday at 14 - I call AppleCare, and they send me a box for return of the computer via UPS
Wednesday at 12 - UPS arrives with the box
Thursday at 9 - UPS comes back to pick up the box
Monday at 13 - UPS is back yet again, this time with the fixed computer
Could it be much better? Well it’s more than good enough for me!
Dataloss
Nothing as annoying as putting items in the trash and emptying, only to realize you just deleted something by accident. Why are there no useable recovery software for the Mac? They all suck, and on top of it, they cost a fortune. It’s not like I lost more than a couple hours work, I wouldn’t even consider paying more than $5 for it. Oh well, I’ll just have to re-do some work some day. This will mean a slight delay for the surprise I’ve been hinting at for some time now though ![]()
Boom Boom
Now it needs to be said that JVC is not a brand I’ve used a lot, and it seems to not be an awfully huge brand in general. I see very few camcorders, stereos or other equipment from them in use. But I’ve listened to one of their stereos, not a state-of-the-art unit, by any means, but it sounded total crap.
I still wish to praise their Boomblaster series of portable stereos though. I wouldn’t mind even calling it the “iPod of stereos”.
With the Boomblasters, JVC have created a portable unit, with VERY good sound, VERY cool design, and a VERY good price. The design is not only cool, it’s also functional. The Boomblasters are not meant to be stationed on the shelf, you can bring it anywhere you go, and it can handle a crash. It’s also packed with cool (or cool for some) features, like built-in guitar-input, lit-up speaker cones that flash to the music, and simple EQs. Oh, and they come with a shoulder strap.
I don’t know what it is with these Boomblasters, but they keep blowing me away every time I see one. Possibly because it sounds like a 10 times bigger (and more expensive) stereo, possibly because it looks so good, or is small and portable. “But, you know, whatever it is, geeez you’re just so gonna want one…”
My World
Something cool for y’all today. A chance to check out my place in VR! Whoa! Yes, QTVR. Filesize: 4.8 MB. It’s not perfect, but it will do for now. Cool eh?
I think so.
More For Free
My ISP boosted my DSL connection from 384/128 to 1024/256 today - for free! I must say I’m impressed, however there are downsides with my ISP though, and I might switch sooner rather than later.
In the ongoing PowerBook saga, I called Apple Support today, and they’re sending me a box via UPS for return of the PowerBook. Combo-drive will be replaced, for free. Should take 2-3 days for box to arrive, and another 5 days for them to get it down and up again. As always with Apple, multiply the number of days by 3.4.
Oh, and if you ever considered backing up your Mac to another Mac via Ethernet and Apples Backup - don’t. Everything slows to a crawl. Applications react slow, the internet is slow, bah.
VersionTracker vs. MacUpdate
So I’ve had a VersionTracker Plus account for 2 years now. Plus, not Pro? Nope. Plus gives me watchlists (never use them), email notifications, or so I think (never use them), no ads (very convenient) and direct download links. Which is nice. But why do I have to pay for many of these things in the first place?
Today VersionTracker sent me a mail stating I need to renew - my current subscription runs out in 3 weeks. If anything like last year, I should wait another couple weeks, and they’ll offer me the renewal at a discounted price (from $24.95 to $19.95). But is this really something I want?
I’m fond of updates, and I need, or want, an update listing without ads. So the dilemma is: should I ditch VT in favor of MacUpdate, which is also only $20? I much prefer MacUpdates philosophy and staff over VTs. Views?
