MT3D Bugs

07Jun04

I posted to the MT forums about a couple problems I had after updating the templates yesterday.

I’m currently investigating the solutions, and have applied the one concerning “remember me”-cookies, with no luck. Maybe I have to clear my cookies first… The other one, with the empty preview forms, will likely have to wait for a final MT3 release. I’m not too keen on hacking my templates again, after spending quite some time on it yesterday. And I personally never preview my comments either.

Blog Update

06Jun04

MovableType 3 ditched the pop-up comments over individual-entry comment listings. So I finally got about to update my templates. First, I removed the trackback listing, no one use it anyhow. And commenting is now done on the individual entry pages, accessible from the “Permalink / Comments” link below. Once there you will notice the whole comment layout has changed, I’m satisfied. Also, ALL visitors are now REQUIRED to register for a free TypeKey account. It will only take seconds, and you won’t get spam or other crap. I know it’s crap to require this, but once MT3 goes official, you can bet more and more blogs will do the same - so in the end, you will have to get a FREE TypeKey account sooner or later anyhow. But why? By requiring this, I can be 99.9% sure not to get any more comment spam. Huzzah! While adding this requirement today, I also completely cleaned out all existing comments by hand - clearing any spam or duplicates. Welcome to the improved xgrape.net :)

So my drive is definitely broken. I’ve sent off mails to a few sources and currently await their response. Hope I can just leave it in at my local dealer, and have them take care of it. Most likely they will need to send it away somewhere else though, however hopefully it can be fixed domestically. I’m just hoping for a quick repair. I’ve waited 6 weeks for a mother board replacement for my iMac and 8 weeks for a modem for the same computer. Whoa. Don’t want to wait that long for my PowerBook to get back.

Was downtown Stockholm today. What did I see? Well, lots of cool things I’d like to show you with my IXUS I tell you, however it’s not here yet. Though it has been repaired today (after a weeks wait for the parts), and should be back home sometime next week.

So, Stockholm. Even if the iPod mini is not available for sale in Europe yet, inLife had one available for me to squeeze and touch. Did I fall in love again or what? Oh my yes! It was even smaller than I had expected, especially in terms of thickness. I want one so badly. Oh well, in a month or two I guess I might have it.

Oh, and I grabbed my first-ever bottle of Jolt. Powerful? Nah. Coke? Yes. Good? Umm, yes… its coke, nothing more nothing less. Promise some more pictures when the camera returns, and stay tuned for my surprise!

Combo-trouble

02Jun04

Me, a guy with computer trouble? It happens, but most often the problems can be easily cured. I have had both the modem and the logic board of my old CRT iMac replaced, but that’s about it. Yesterday I was afraid my PowerBook could be next.

After ejecting an audio CD, I could no longer insert any disks in the combo drive. I would push the disk as far as I could, but the drive just wouldn’t help it all the way in. So I spent some time on the Apple Discussion boards, and reading through this kbase article, but no help. Often when you experience a problem, chances are others have had the same problem, and chances are you will find help on the net. However, there are often nearly as many solutions as there are problems. For me, none of the solutions suggested in Apples kbase article did the trick, neither did any of the tips provided in the forum. I thought I might end up like others on the discussion boards, sending the PB in to Apple for a replacement drive.

What did I do to solve the problem then? Pulled out the battery and power cord, and let the computer cool down and empty itself of energy over the night. When I turned it on again this morning, the drive made a even more freaky noise during startup than what it had done last night - probably resetting the mechanism. And that, dear readers, did the trick.

Update: It’s broken again. We’ll see what happens…
